During your stay with ExciTES, you will be introduced to a variety of engineering fields including those related to the 8 Bachelor of Science degrees offered at the UTEP College of Engineering, through inquiry-based/team-oriented projects. You will conduct experiments in UTEP Engineering laboratories and facilities working side-by-side with UTEP engineering faculty and students.
ExciTES encourages students from the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez region to use their knowledge, imagination, and creativity and, apply it to traditional math and science problems. All the activities during the week are structured to be inquiry-based, challenging and team focused. Rising 3rd graders through 11th graders are eligible to attend.
The objectives of ExciTES are to: 1) create awareness of the diverse fields of engineering and science and 2) encourage participants to attend college; specifically, UTEP's Colleges of Engineering and Science.
All students can apply to the ExciTES Summer Institute starting April 15. Applications will be reviewed by our outreach committee and preliminary acceptance emails will be sent out on May 15. Secondary and subsequent reviewals will occur as needed with acceptance emails being send out every 10 days.
After being accepted, fees will be collected on the first day of the session. Do not send payment prior to being accepted.
ExciTES Scholarships are sometimes available to subsidize the fee. If interested, please email a 1-page personal statement after submitting your application to pick firstname.lastname@example.org. Personal statements should be less than 100 words explaining 1) your current knowledge/awareness of Engineering in general, 2) your interest in any of the fields of Engineering and 3) your interest in attending UTEP and majoring in engineering.
