TMAC Provides Industry Training

Small and mid-size manufacturers are getting expert help through TMAC, an organization that exists to provide support to the manufacturing and research community.

A part of the Research Institute for Manufacturing and Engineering Systems (RIMES) at UTEP, TMAC provides support to the manufacturing industry in the form of training and technical assistance.

“These partnerships help manufacturers and UTEP by providing expert help that some manufacturers would otherwise not be able to obtain, said Ricardo Pineda, Director of RIMES. “It also provides hands-on experience for UTEP students.”

During the summer, TMAC provided training programs for some of its industry partners.

In Denver, TMAC provided ISO 9001 training and guidance for Global Technology Resources, Inc. (GTRI), a project sponsored by Raytheon under the Mentor/Protégé program.

A three-day training program was also held in Monterrey, Mexico for Acuity Brands. The program, called “Lean Boot Camp”, was adapted and translated in collaboration with Georgia Tech. TMAC will complete a third session for Acuity Brands in January 2009.

In Puebla, Mexico, TMAC provided a week-long Training Within Industry (TWI) program in Spanish in collaboration with the TWI Institute located in Syracuse, New York. New events and programs are scheduled in New Mexico, Wisconsin and Alaska.

TMAC is an affiliate of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which provides Federal funding. TMAC consists of seven partner institutions delivering services statewide. For more information visit
