The U.S. Department of Education awarded three grants to The University of Texas at El Paso College of Engineering to support graduate education. The College of Engineering will receive close to $1 million over two years.
The funds will be used to develop a doctoral program in Biomedical Engineering, an Energy Engineering doctoral focus within the Environmental Science and Engineering PhD Program, and a Master’s of Science degree in Software Engineering.
As one of nation’s top schools for Hispanics, the Department of Education recognized UTEP for its “innovative efforts to expand graduate-level academic offerings at colleges that enroll a significant number of Hispanic American students.” Each of the graduate programs will address current technological needs in the local El Paso area.
“These federal funds will help students go further in their graduate education and provide them with the training and skills needed to obtain high paying jobs,” said Congressman Reyes. “I commend UTEP for working to provide students with more opportunities in these critical fields to meet the growing needs of our global economy.”
