Two graduates of The University of Texas at El Paso will be recognized at the 2010 Great Minds in STEM Conference, Oct. 7-10 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

UTEP Civil Engineering graduate Angel Urbina, Ph.D., and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering graduate Erica Corral, Ph.D. are among the 22nd Annual HENAAC Award Winners in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Both will receive the graduate degree (doctoral) award for “Most Promising Engineer or Scientist”.

Urbina is currently an engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. Corral is assistant professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Arizona.

Award winners were selected by the HENAAC Selection Committee, which is comprised of representatives from industry, government, military and academic institutions. HENAAC, which was established in 1989 as a means of identifying, honoring, and documenting the contributions of outstanding Hispanic American science, engineering, technology and math professionals, annually recognizes the achievements of America’s best and brightest engineers and scientists within the Hispanic community.

This year’s award winners will be honored at the HENAAC Awards Show on Friday, October 8 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
