The College of Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso is pleased to make the following announcements.

Carlos Ferregut, Ph.D., has been named Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. Previously the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Undergraduate Studies, his new duties will include optimizing the design and delivery of current graduate programs, working with faculty on the development of new graduate programs and recruitment and retention of high quality graduate students.

“In order to be competitive in this global economy, a bachelor’s degree is no longer enough,” said Ferregut. “Graduate education is becoming more important, especially in engineering. In the future we are planning to increase the number of graduate offerings that we have and we are also going to reach out more to students in the United States and in Latin America.”

Ferregut has been a civil engineering professor at UTEP for 17 years. His research and areas of interest include structural reliability, non-destructive testing and random vibration.

Peter Golding, Ph.D., has been named Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Engineering Education Research. In this role, he will oversee student affairs and undergraduate program issues. An Associate Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Golding also serves as Coordinator for the Basic Engineering program and Director of the Center for Research in Engineering and Technology Education (CREaTE). He is a strong advocate for student success in the college and has interests across many disciplines of engineering.

“Engineering education represents the future and UTEP is a national leader in this field,” said Golding. “We look forward to adding academic programs and research that reflect this strength, for the benefit of all our faculty, staff and students.”

Manny Pacillas has been named Assistant Dean for Advancement. Formerly the Director of the Institute for Manufacturing and Materials Management (IM3), Pacillas’ primary focus is on college advancement, major gifts and corporate and alumni relations. Pacillas is a UTEP engineering graduate and has been on staff since 1989. His understanding of the full range of engineering programs, initiatives and resources gives him the background and insight to be the first Assistant Dean with this responsibility.
