Two undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science have been selected to participate in the Army High Performance Computing Research Center (AHPCRC) 2009 Summer Institute for Undergraduates in Computational Science and Engineering.

Edgar Padilla and Essau Ramirez, both Computer Science undergraduates, will attend the Summer Institute and receive training and hands-on experience in the use of computational techniques. The Institute also focuses on preparing students to pursue graduate studies in technology areas dependent upon computational science and engineering.

SThe program curriculum combines short courses in computational engineering methods concentrating on structural mechanics, fluid dynamics and computer programming for parallel clusters, with research experience working with one of the AHPCRC research groups at Stanford University.

This is a great opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Patricia Teller, Professor of Computer Science. “They will have the opportunity to work with some of the leaders in the field.”

Padilla and Ramirez will receive a stipend of $4,000 for the eight-week conference which will take place at Stanford University June 22 – August 14, 2009.
