IMSTEL
Vision, Mission and Research Goals
Our broader goal is to increasing access to 21st century advanced scientific research that will promote excellence. We will relentlessly work towards advancing fundamental research that will positively impact the health, culture, education, and economy of the community we serve, directly.
We are a 'biomaterials' and 'stem-cell based tissue engineering' laboratory and use biomaterials to culture, proliferate and induce differentiation in stem cells to understand how the ECM-stem cell interaction modulates cell fate and turnover. We are also invested in the process of making tissue-on-a chip devices to promote functionality of in-vitro engineered tissues that can be used for 1) in-vivo implantation; 2) drug toxicity testing and, 3) replicate developmental, healthy or disease tissue models.
Our strategic focus areas are 1) Cardiac, 2) Neural, 3) Bone tissue and 4) Gastro-intestinal tissue engineering.
