Electrical Engineering Seniors Present Innovative Senior Projects

November 26, 2012

Undergraduate seniors from the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso will be conducting a public presentation of their Senior Project Posters at the College of Engineering Foyer on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Engineering undergraduate students must participate in a capstone project prior to graduation. This project is a mandatory research opportunity for senior students to work in teams towards real world applied research and design projects. By participating in the senior project students demonstrate what they have learned throughout their engineering degree.

Each team chooses a project and then must produce detailed presentation showing what their research has been of and what purpose their invention has. Students must also fabricate their invention and have it working, ready to be presented to their fellow students and faculty members.

This year ten teams have designed and built new innovative inventions. Among the designs are, a smart-house that allows energy consumption to be reduced by automatically turning on and off devices, a smart-fridge which is a device that will make shopping for groceries easier by keeping track of what is in the fridge, a gray house design for rain water collection that is solar powered and is capable of collecting all the rain water into a container and is used for a different purpose such as watering plants, flushing restrooms, etc.

On this day students from Del Valle and Parkland High School have been invited to view the posters and models designed and created by UTEP students. Everyone is welcomed to come view and support the students' hard work on a yearlong research project.
