Engineering students host Internship Seminar Series

The College of Engineering Tau Beta Pi, Malone Engineering Leadership Program, the Entering Student Program and the UTEP Career Center presents the Internships: Connections to Your Future Seminar on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 12:30pm in the Undergraduate Learning Center (UGLC) room 128.

This seminar consists of a series of student-driven initiatives that intent to emphasize the importance of pre-professional experiences among engineering students helping them to reach their educational and professional goals thru experiences beyond the classroom.

The objective of these seminars is to have an internship lecture series that consists of two internship presentations every week. Attending audience will select the best presenter. Among the seminar presenters are students that completed internships with NASA, British Petroleum, Exxon Mobil, Lockheed Martin, General Motors, AT&T and more.

On Friday, internship presenters will be Olivia Moreno UTEP Industrial Engineering student and Jesus Ortega UTEP Mechanical Engineering student.

Olivia interned at Environmental Defense Fund. Olivia's research interests include sustainable/ environmental engineering, renewable/ alternative energy technologies, product life cycle assessment, energy system optimization, and energy efficiency management. She serves as Vice-President of Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society for Industrial Engineering. She is also part of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Fellow, member of the Society of Women Engineers, and the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Jesus interned with National Renewable Energy Laboratory, where he focused on characterizing thermo-physical properties of compounds that could be potential candidates for Thermal Energy Storage applications. Since Fall 2011 he has worked in the Computational Mechanics Laboratory in UTEP as Computational Fluid Dynamics Undergraduate Research Assistant.
