Mechanical Engineering Faculty Selected to Participate in the Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium

Vinod Kumar Ph.D., and Norman Love Jr., Ph.D., assistant professors of mechanical engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso, have been selected to join the nation's most innovative young engineering educators at the National Academy of Engineering's fourth Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium Oct. 27-30 in Irvine, Calif.
The Frontiers of Engineering Education (FOEE) is comprised of faculty members who are developing and implementing innovative educational approaches in a variety of engineering disciplines. The FOEE symposium brings together some of the nation's most engaged and innovative engineering educators for the two-and-a-half-day event, where they can share ideas, learn from research and best practices in education, and leave with a charter to bring about improvement in their home institutions.
"It is an honor to have faculty of such a high caliber, it reflects our commitment to the high quality education we provide to our students," said Ahsan Choudhuri Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The attendees were nominated by fellow engineers or deans and chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants.
"I am honored to be selected to attend and participate in the symposium on Frontiers of Engineering Education this symposium," Love said. "It will provide opportunities for me to collaborate with faculty from other institutions, communicate with others about new educational techniques, and is a step toward becoming a leader in this area."
Kumar said that he expects to learn several new learning innovation techniques and tools that he can bring to campus and integrate them into the existing and new classes.
"The symposium will allow us to share the unique learning barriers that our students faces and the interventions techniques that we need to enhance the learning experiences of our students," Kumar said. "Not to mention the unique opportunity to share our unique engineering education and discuss about effective teaching and learning techniques with other global engineering educators."
This year's symposium will focus on designing and analyzing societal networks, cognitive manufacturing, flexible electronics and reducing the dependence on fossil fuels.
