Kelvin Cheu, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Civil Engineering in UTEP's College of Engineering, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Transportation Science and Technology.
Cheu was an associate editor of Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies and won the inaugural Best Associate Editor Award in 2004. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles with colleagues and students.
"I feel that it is time for me to take a leadership role in guiding young researchers into the business of academic publishing and to safeguard scientific integrity," he said.
Since his appointment in January 2016, Cheu has been busy rebranding the journal, shaping the aim and scope, forming his editorial team and working with Elsevier staff to set up the journal's new website. He has assembled a relatively young international team of nine associate editors and 40 editorial board members, including winners of the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development award, Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee chairs, and U.S. Department of Transportation University Transportation Centers (UTC) Best Dissertation Award winners.
