UTEP Civil Engineering Professor Elected to Public Service Board

 

Dr. Ivonne Santiago

Ivonne Santiago, Ph.D., clinical professor of civil engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso has been appointed to the environmental/health position on the Public Service Board (PSB) of El Paso Water Utilities.

The PSB is a seven-member board of trustees that oversees the utility and its water, wastewater, reclaimed water and storm water systems.

"I am excited and humbled to be a part of the Public Service Board and to contribute to solving water quality and quantity in our desert Southwest community," Santiago said.

Santiago has more than 20 years of diverse academic, professional and public service experience in water quality and wastewater treatment. At the UTEP Department of Civil Engineering, she coordinates the senior capstone design courses, the hydraulic laboratory, and assessment and accreditation.

Santiago is a licensed professional environmental engineer in Texas, New Mexico and Puerto Rico. She is a member of the American Water Works Association; American Society of Civil Engineers; Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration; Society of Women Engineers; and Latina Research Network. She has been involved in community projects related to water issues in Puerto Rico and, more recently, in the colonias of the Paso del Norte Region.
