What: UTEP activities associated with National Engineers Week
When: Feb. 18-21
Where: Chemistry and Computer Science Building and Engineering and Sciences Complex
The University of Texas at El Paso's College of Engineering will host two events during National Engineers Week, Feb. 17-21.
The 2050 Green City Design Expo and Tours will display the work of elementary, middle and high school students who were challenged to design a Southwest city model that use sustainable approaches for water, energy, agriculture, waste management, green spaces and transportation systems. Elementary students were asked to submit a drawing of their city, and middle and high school students completed physical models of their proposed cities.
The expo takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day through Friday, Feb. 21 in the Chemistry and Computer Science Building, first floor.
About 100 students from nine schools that participated in the competition will tour the College of Engineering and learn more about the importance of going green during the expo.
Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 19, pilots from Lockheed Martin will demonstrate how to fly using F-16 and F-22 flight simulators that are used to train fighter pilots. Students will have the opportunity to experience take off, missiles launching, flight formations and landing the aircraft in real world conditions. The simulators will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
Lockheed Martin will have an information and corporate recruitment table set up in the Engineering Building foyer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. They also will accept resumes for internships and full-time positions.
