UTEP Engineering

Since its founding in 1913 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy, the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso has emerged to become a national leader in graduating Hispanic engineers with the real-world experience and academic foundation to change the face of engineering.

Student research is key to the College of Engineering experience and our highly-trained graduates are heavily recruited by the industry’s leading companies.

The college is consistently ranked in the top 5 schools in the continental U.S. in awarding bachelor degrees to Hispanics and was recently named the number 1 graduate engineering school for Hispanics in the country*.

Dr. Richard Schoephoerster, Dean of the College of Engineering, leads more than 120 faculty and staff in 6 academic departments and over 15 state-of-the-art laboratories and research centers. Academic departments include Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
